VMSDFI conceived these projects because of the rampant cases of children with special needs as well as cases of malnourished children at the dumpsite of Payatas. That is why the foundation started to partner with funding agencies and other members of the civic organizations in the early 1990s. The intermediate objectives were to extend feeding sessions to critically malnourished children living in Payatas, Quezon City.
Thereafter these feeding sessions progressed into other projects that deemed necessary to make significant impact to the lives of CBO members and their families. New projects evolved such as therapy training sessions for 30 mothers of children with special needs; supplemental milk and prescription medicine which are vital to sustain their children’s physical and mental health status. Likewise, the centers required renovation or repairs to make these projects progress.
On the other hand, soft input is not funded like training to develop human resources, staff salaries, volunteers support and family development activities that are equally important to sustain the program.
As of February 2019, it VMSDFI 200 children with special needs that are being aided by the foundation. Currently, there are 70 children with special needs in SAMABAKAMO in Rizal (SAmahan ng mga MAgulang ng BAtang may KApansanan ng MOntalban) and more than 200 in District 2, Bagong Silangan area.
For Php500, you can help a child with special needs stay healthy during this pandemic. Due to the quarantine, their parents, who are mostly daily wage earners, lost the opportunity to provide for their families. While government assistance is present, it is not enough for their conditions.
